A steam bath, whether dry (sauna) or wet (steam), is considered the simplest way to cleanse the body of toxins. This opens the pores of the skin, millions of sweat glands begin to secrete, and the body expels metabolic substances and other waste products.
Sweat contains almost the same elements as urine, which is why the skin is sometimes called the third kidney.
Up to 30% of body waste is removed through sweating. As body temperature rises, the body's natural response is to sweat and thus cool itself by evaporating the sweat. In a sauna, the sweat, full of toxins, dries on the body. Therefore, showering after a sauna session is recommended. However, in a steam bath, which provides a 100% humid environment, this evaporation is not possible, so the drop in valuable body temperature is either minimal or nonexistent. You sweat a lot, but your sweat doesn't evaporate and dry on your skin. Higher humidity levels further increase body temperature, becoming the primary heat transfer mechanism and causing significant condensation on the body.
The cleansing and healing power of the hyperthermia process does not begin until body temperature reaches 38-39.5 °C. This body warming occurs more quickly and effectively in a steam bath than in a sauna, taking only 10-15 minutes.
Another benefit of a steam bath is its stimulating effect on the cardiovascular system. During a 15-20 minute session, the pulse rate increases from an average of 75 beats per minute to 100-150 beats per minute. Thus, blood circulation accelerates, but blood pressure does not rise, because while blood flow accelerates due to the heat, the capillaries in the skin also dilate. Steam baths and steam inhalation are effective treatments for improving respiratory conditions and are recommended for colds, sinusitis, bronchitis, and allergic diseases.
"Steam provides relief from inflammation and congestion of the upper respiratory tract membranes.
*It improves throat irritation by humidifying the air.
*Steam stimulates the release of mucus from the throat and lungs by freeing secretions.
*Steam relaxes muscles and reduces coughing.
*Steam protects mucous membranes from excessive dryness.
Steam baths are especially beneficial for oily skin. A steam bath can be used occasionally to relax the skin and open pores. Steam baths are harmful for some skin types. It is particularly important to avoid steam in cases of acne rosacea."
